The choice of materials is vital in the repair of older propertys.The miss use of modern materials can lead to serious problems.

Some of the main Issues that i have encounted over the years which have led to so called DAMP

HIGH GROUND LEVELS,BLOCKED AIR BRICKS,BROKEN/LEAKING DRAINS/PIPEWORK,DAMAGED CHIMNEYS/ROOF,DAMAGED/MISALIGNED GUTTERING,BLOCKED SOAKAWAYS.

Incorporate any of the above issues with the use of the wrong modern materials ie strong cement pointing/cement rendering

Cement/gypsum plastering/tanking/modern plastic paints, lack of ventilation/extraction etc and it will inevitably lead to trapped moisture/DAMP

The cement pointing and repairs pictured were probably done with the best intentions.just a lack of knowledge,thankfully now with access to the internet,more builders/home owners are realising,that in general modern materials are not compatible with older Property’s.If your property was constructed with lime, it is important for a like for like approach be taken when considering repair work.
